Tom Coates

Tom is a fully accredited CBT Therapist who has worked within the NHS for the last 10 years.

Tom’s interest in the area of mental health developed at a young age, and he actively pursued the study of Psychology at school. Tom went on to graduate with a First Class degree from the University of Chester, before completing a Masters degree in Psychological Research at the University of Sheffield. Following this, Tom began working in a highly specialist inpatient and community Eating Disorders service, supporting individuals struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder.

In 2013, Tom joined a thriving primary care mental health service located in Buckinghamshire. During this period, Tom took on further studies at the University of Reading, completing both a Post Graduate certificate and later a Post Graduate diploma in Evidence Based Interventions, enabling him to work as a qualified CBT Therapist. In this role, Tom gained experience supporting individuals presenting with various emotional health disorders including:

Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Social Phobia and Health Anxiety.

In recent years, Tom has enjoyed working within a specialist weight management project that supports individuals to lead a healthier life through lifestyle change. Within this role, Tom has developed further knowledge and skills, often utilising Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques to support service users with goals around losing weight.

Alongside his clinical work, Tom has also developed his supervision and management skills within his NHS role, providing regular clinical supervision to both qualified and trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.
